The Wild Robot presents a beautiful story, so touching and moving. Presented with stunning visuals and detailed character designs. This movie is able to provide a broader meaning about life.
About learning, adapting, and growing through the journey of Roz, a wild robot who meets various animals and eventually becomes a foster mother to Brightbill, a swan chick that has just hatched from its shell. Learning in a new environment, her encounters with animals, and her persistence in nurturing Brightbill to have the ability as it should be really relate to human life that has the same role.
This film has a balanced portion of humor with touching moments. The jokes that succeed in inviting laughter not only come from their conversations, but also from the behavior of the characters.
The character designs are detailed. Besides Roz, we can see various animals on the island. Not only in terms of appearance, but also how each character looks like. The characters are able to strengthen the storyline and make the audience emotionally connected. Some characters feel alone and have no friends, some give their opinions, some are respected, some are sometimes underestimated but at certain moments are needed. All of them are there. It's the same with human life with its various characters.
We can see how the characters develop. Not only Roz, but also the animals and their relationships. Roz, who was initially considered a monster to the animals there and spoke in a rigid language like a programmed robot, could eventually feel a bond with other animals, especially Brightbill. Adapting and surviving there together makes the relationship between the characters even more solid. It's like forgetting that Roz is a robot.
Lupita Nyong'o is the person behind Roz's voice. From her voice, we can feel the emotional development of Roz. There is also Kit Konnor who fills Brightbill's voice. The moments with Brightbill are truly moving and touching. Not a few of them make my eyes glaze over. One of the moments that made me cry was when they said “I love you”. It felt really touching.
Talking about technicalities, the visuals are absolutely stunning. The island landscape looks beautiful and detailed. The trees, the colors of the flowers and the weather feel so real. Even you can feel the cold snow and warm sunshine. The virtual camera in some chase scenes makes the atmosphere even more thrilling. Accompanied by beautiful music, it feels more emotional.
