As someone who is a vintage/classic horror fan and has watched the original movie, I think the 2024 version is an upgrade. Of course, the first half of the movie lack substance, a bit draggy even. But the last half is what I came for. However, the dread throughout the whole movie is very "cold" and on point on being a gothic horror movie. I would also give a loud applause for Lily-Rose Depp for her acting, especially the possessed part. Those scenes are MAGNETIC and terrifying. It's rare for me to get spooked by a possession scene. Unfortunately, the story plot / writing is somewhat flat. It is rather developed compared to the original movie. Tapi justru karena udah developed ini tapi kita gak dikasih some depth, jatohnya nanggung. But, the symbolism and metaphors are always satisfying.
